Getting Started
What does Pong actually do?
Pong sends real ICMP Echo Request packets — the same kind the built-in ping command uses — to a hostname or IP address you specify, then displays the round-trip time for each one. It's useful for diagnosing network reachability, measuring latency, and spotting packet loss.
How is this different from other "ping" apps?
Many iOS ping apps use HTTP requests under the hood because raw sockets require a Network Extension entitlement. Pong uses genuine ICMP sockets, so the results are accurate: if a host doesn't respond to real pings, Pong reports a timeout — it won't show a false "success" from an HTTP 200.
Does it support IPv6?
Yes. Pong automatically resolves the hostname you enter and uses whichever protocol the host responds on — IPv4 or IPv6. You don't need to configure anything. The resolved IP address (and protocol) is shown in each result row.
What is the "Pings" control at the top of the screen?
It sets how many pings to send per session. The default is Continuous — pings keep going until you tap Stop. Pong Pro unlocks 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 count options, which automatically stop after that many pings.
Pong Pro
What does Pong Pro include?
Pong Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks:
  • Multi-Host Monitoring — add a list of hosts and ping them all simultaneously
  • CSV Export — share ping results as a spreadsheet-compatible CSV file
  • Custom Ping Count — run 5, 10, 20, 50, or 100 pings per session
  • Clear All History — wipe the complete ping history in one tap
Is it a subscription?
No. Pong Pro is a single one-time payment. There are no recurring charges, no annual fees, and no expiry date. Pay once and the features are yours.
I bought Pong Pro on one device. Can I use it on others?
Yes. Pong Pro is tied to your Apple ID, not a specific device. As long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID, you can restore the purchase on any of your iOS devices for free.

To restore: Open Pong → tap the ⓘ Info button → scroll to Purchase → tap Restore Purchases.

I lost Pong Pro after reinstalling the app. How do I get it back?
  • 1Open Pong and tap the ⓘ button in the top-right corner.
  • 2Scroll to the Purchase section and tap Restore Purchases.
  • 3You'll be prompted to sign in to your Apple ID if needed.
  • 4Pong Pro will be restored at no additional charge.

Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. Purchases cannot be transferred between Apple IDs.

Multi-Host Monitoring (Pro)
How do I add hosts to the Multi-Host list?
Tap the + button on the Multi-Host tab. You can either paste a list of hosts (one per line) or import a plain text or CSV file. An optional label can be added before each host, separated by a comma: Office Router, 192.168.1.1
What file formats can I import?
Pong accepts plain text files (.txt) and comma-separated files (.csv). Each line should contain either a hostname/IP, or an optional label followed by a comma and the hostname/IP. Blank lines and duplicates are skipped automatically.
How do I delete a host from the list?
Swipe left on any host row and tap Delete, or use the standard iOS swipe-to-delete gesture. Hosts can only be deleted when monitoring is stopped.
Where is the detail view for an individual host?
Tap any row in the Multi-Host list to open the detail screen for that host, showing its full ping history for the current session.
History & Export
How do I export ping results?
Tap the share (↑) button in the top-right corner of the Single Host screen. Pong Pro is required. A CSV file is generated and the iOS share sheet appears, letting you save to Files, send via Mail, AirDrop it, or open it in a spreadsheet app.
Does Pong save results from previous sessions?
Yes. All results are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. When the session ends, the history is preserved and visible the next time you open the app. You can tap any historical result to quickly re-ping that address.
How do I clear ping history?
Tap the trash (🗑) icon at the top-left of the Single Host tab. You can clear history for the current host (free) or all history for every host (Pong Pro required).
Troubleshooting
Pong says "timeout" but the host is online. What's wrong?
Some hosts and firewalls block ICMP traffic even when other services on that host are reachable. This is common for certain cloud providers and CDN edge nodes. It doesn't mean the host is down — just that it doesn't respond to pings. Conversely, if Pong shows timeouts for a host you control, check whether the firewall allows inbound ICMP Echo.
Pong says "Could not resolve host." What should I do?
DNS resolution failed for the hostname you entered. Check the spelling, make sure you have an active network connection, and verify that the hostname resolves correctly. Try pinging the IP address directly to confirm connectivity.
The app is slow to start pinging. Is that normal?
There may be a brief delay while Pong resolves the hostname. Status text reading "Resolving…" indicates this step is in progress. Once the IP is resolved, pings begin immediately. Long delays usually mean the hostname takes time to resolve via DNS.
Multi-Host shows "No Hosts Yet" even after I added hosts.
This can happen if the import sheet was dismissed with Cancel instead of tapping Add, or if the pasted text was empty. Try tapping + again, paste your list, and tap Add in the top-right corner before closing the sheet.
