Privacy Policy for BTScanner
Last updated: August 2026
Overview
BTScanner is a Bluetooth scanning utility for Mac designed with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what information the app accesses and how it is used.
Information We Collect
BTScanner does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. All data handled by the app remains entirely on your Mac.
Bluetooth Data
BTScanner uses your Mac's Bluetooth hardware to detect nearby Bluetooth devices that are actively broadcasting. For each detected device, the app may display:
- Device name (if broadcast by the device)
- A Bluetooth identifier (UUID)
- Signal strength (RSSI)
- Manufacturer information (if broadcast by the device)
- Device type, inferred from publicly advertised Bluetooth service identifiers
- Whether the device is connectable
This information is read directly from public Bluetooth advertisement signals in your vicinity. BTScanner does not connect to, pair with, or extract any data from the devices it detects.
Notes
BTScanner allows you to attach personal notes to specific devices for your own reference. These notes are stored only in your Mac's local storage and are never transmitted anywhere.
Pinned Devices
BTScanner saves a list of pinned device identifiers and their last-known information locally on your Mac. This data is used solely to display pinned devices in the app and is never transmitted anywhere.
Data Storage
All data — including scan results, notes, and pinned device information — is stored locally on your Mac using standard system storage. No data is:
- Sent to external servers
- Shared with third parties
- Used for advertising or analytics
- Backed up to any service controlled by the developer
If you delete the app, all associated data is removed from your Mac.
In-App Purchases
BTScanner offers a one-time "Unlock All Features" in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store. BTScanner does not handle, store, or have access to any payment information. All purchase and restore transactions are managed by Apple's StoreKit framework.
Third-Party Services
BTScanner does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Bluetooth Permission
BTScanner requests Bluetooth access solely to perform its core function: scanning for and displaying nearby Bluetooth devices. This permission is required by macOS and is used for no other purpose.
Children's Privacy
BTScanner does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, as it does not collect information at all.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the revised version will be made available with the app and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the change.
