Answers to common questions about using Pools. If you don't find what you need below, reach out directly.
How do I create a new pool?
Tap the + button on the Pools list, choose a weapon, set the number of fencers (4–10), and enter or import names. Tap Start to generate the pool sheet.
How does name import work?
Tap Import on the setup screen to open the standard Files picker. You can choose a plain text file (one name per line) from iCloud Drive, OneDrive, or any other location accessible through the Files app.
Can I randomize the fencer order?
Yes. Tap Randomize on the setup screen before starting the pool, or on the pool sheet itself before any bouts have begun. Once a bout has started, scores or cards have been entered, the order locks to protect existing results.
How do I score a bout?
Tap any cell on the pool sheet to open the referee console. Tap Start Bout, then use the score buttons to track touches for each fencer. Tap Bout Complete when finished.
What happens when scores are tied at time expiry?
A Priority & Overtime button appears. Tapping it runs a random priority spin and resets the clock to one minute. If the score is still tied when overtime expires, the fencer with priority is awarded the win.
How do cards work?
Yellow cards are limited to one per fencer per bout. Red cards automatically award a touch to the opponent and can be issued multiple times. Black cards immediately exclude the fencer from the pool and void their remaining bouts — this requires confirmation since it cannot be undone from within the console.
Can I export pool results?
Yes. From the Standings screen, tap the export icon and choose Plain Text, PDF, CSV, or JSON. The share sheet lets you save, print, email, or send the file anywhere your device supports.
Does Pools work on iPad?
Pools is currently designed and supported for iPhone. iPad support is planned for a future update.
Is my data backed up?
Pools stores everything locally on your device. To preserve your pools across devices or backups, use the export feature to save a copy, or restore your iPhone from an iCloud or iTunes backup, which includes app data.
Is my data shared with anyone?
No. Pools does not collect, transmit, or share any data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
